Cadena SER Radio Cartagena Spain 1.602Mhz Medium Wave

Short recording of Cadena SER Radio Cartagena (Spain) 1.602Mhz Medium Wave received at my position @ IN50we… A very rare opportunity to copy this station mainly because the high QRN at my position almost it never allows for any MW reception… This radio transmitter is around 700Km away from my position
Time is UTC+1

Sounds clear! Which SDR and antenna are you using?

I use a SDR Play RSP1 clone from China and the antenna is just a crappy telescopic whip with 1.2 meters on my roof… I’m waiting for a few parts to repair an electronic mini whip I’ve bought 2 months ago and was effective and will use it in the future. I also intend to make a wire EFHW antenna for the Ham bands… I’m slowly improving my radio station with the scarce means I have…

Do you use any additional upconverter device with SDRplay? I’ve heard many people use upconverter with RTL SDR.

Nop… My RSP1 clone goes from 10KHz to 2Ghz without any up-converter, that’s why it was my option… It’s an RSI Chinese clone but it works perfectly… It costs around 60€ on Aliexpress if you can still find it… It is a 12Bit/10Mhz bandwidth device, much better than the 8Bits/3Mhz bandwidth of the RTL-SDR… I bought it to use as a Panadapter for my HF Transceiver and use it as the reception part of the system… It allows to cover the complete band and have much more filtering, bandwidth and gain options than my transceiver has. I’m just waiting to complete the set-up with an antenna-sherer/switcher and then everything will work as I want it…

About the RTL-SDR if it is the V3 or V4 it doesn’t need an up-converter, only V1 and V2 need them… Unfortunately the V3 and specially the V4 are not going to be manufactured any more due to the lack of their main chips… There are still a few vendors that have them but it’s a risky buying because there are loads of Chinese scammers that sell V1 and V2 inside V3 or V4 enclosures, and those of course are not broadband and are only suitable for 27Mhz to 1.2 Ghz. The Noelec options are also great but more difficult to buy in Europe for a decent price because they came from the US…

True. I bought two fake RTL-SDRs from AliExpress a few years ago. Wasted a lot of time trying to tune to shortwave frequencies. I thought I was doing something wrong.
