At the time I bought this in about 1980 I was still on my CBs but taking the ham exams.
Been sat in a box in the cupboard for 40+ years but rescued it when I reapplied for my ham license!
Now part of my new shack, currently fed by a random wire just running through the wall.
Hope to improve on that when I start sorting better antennas.
Only gets switched on occasionally but doing OK with the temporary make shift wire. Old school knobs and buttons. Has a nice tone to it.
A bit of nostalgia in a box.
Looks like a cool radio. Maybe it was expensive back in the day. I once heard that CB radio was like social media of its time. I’m a much younger person, so I wouldn’t know. I guess it feels great to be back in this hobby after all these years. ![]()
It was and still is a great receiver. Prior to that had only listened to AM & FM, apart from CB, but this allowed me to also listen to the ham bands, which became part of my motivation to get my ham kicense.
Haha, Yes CB - well before mobile phones and chat apps!.Was a great way of having some local comms. The people on it back on weren’t necessarily into radio. As you say it was equally a social thing. Very little activity now and those that are on are mainly into SSB DX. Also a bit of a shift to PMR (on UHF)
Yes I’m getting on a bit. Beginning to realise the SW BC bands aren’t as well populated as they once were. Still a great way to relax and pass some time.
Also a great way to guage propagation at times.
Shortwave bands are mostly populated by Chinese stations these days. Even Voice of America was off the air last year, but some of their programs are back this year.
That’s a beaut, Iv always liked that look.
The motivation for getting my Raddy rf919 was i had a similar looking fm mw radio i recieved for Christmas in the 70’s.
