Thanks for a great site, Q about sort order?

Hi. I’ve been a SW listener for a long time, but your site is a breath of fresh air. It’s great to be able to experience the EIBI list in a human-readable way!

One thing I couldn’t figure out: What is the sort order for the results? If I start from the main page without filters or search, the results seem to display in a new random order every time I refresh the page.

Aha, as I type this I answered my own question: There is far too much info in the EIBI DB to display a survey because it would be thousands of lines long, so you’re pulling a small random selection to show to the user before we apply search/filtering? Makes sense from a performance perspective, but it would be nice to explain that in the UI. Maybe something like “Below is a random sample of shortwave stations. Use the filters above to reveal complete information”.

Thanks for your feedback!

Yes, you’re right. The main page shows some random data. I think seeing some random unknown broadcast info with colorful flags creates a bit of curiosity. I didn’t know what text to put above it. I think leaving it blank is better.

Cool. Thanks for the site!

Hi.

Sort order:

I note that when you have filtered a selection that you can click on ‘Station’ and it will sort the entries based upon that column. Very handy. That seems to be the only working sort criteria that can be applied in that way. Specifically trying to sort by Frequency or Start Time columns does not work (afaik).

Best. Ian
